Back home I couldn't get that picture out of my mind.After about an hour I got into the pickup and went back to the spot,feeling stupid,to be honest.I mean,I'm the kind of guy that hunts deer instead of rescuing them.But the little fellow was still there,almost like he'd been waiting for me.I cut the ignition and got out.The fawn hesitated before taking a step toward me.I stuck out my hand,palm up.He took another step and laid his head right in my hand.And that weird feeling in my chest came back.I bent down and scooped the fawn up.He couldn't have weighed more than four or five pounds.
