There were much air pollutiou and water pollution 这句话对不对 为什么要用were请解释

这里必须要用was , 因为pollution （污染）是不可数名词, 所以谓语要用单数,同时there be 句型还有就近原则,be 动词与其临近的名词保持一致.例如：There is a book and two pens on the desk./ There are two pens and a book on the desk.

用was更好。
there be句型常用就近原则， 就近的是 much air pollution所以用was好。
但用were也可以接受， 毕竟后面是 A and B结构，谓语用复数。
