cheerful 是个形容词,一般与be 动词连用 ,pretend 后接 to do ,就成了 pretend to be cheerful .

那如果去掉to be 有错吗？ pretend不是有及物动词吗？

去掉不行。pretend 是及物动词可以接宾语，宾语由名词和代词充当，而 cheerful 是形容词。
