Chinese legend says in the Eastern Han dynasty,Immortal Wang Fangping went to his disciple Cai Jing's place and met Fairy Magu.Later,Wang Fangping found out that the fairy was his own sister.In her early years,she practised on the Guyu Mountain and became a fairy.Even after a couple of thousand of years,she still looked like an eighteen or nineteen-year-old girl with a hair bun on the head,long hair to the waist,and dazzlingly brilliant garments.
At the reunion banquet,while people were drinking and laughing,Magu said,“Ever since I became a fairy,I have witnessed that the East Sea turned into a mulberry field three times.Last time when I visited Fairy Mountain Penglai,I noticed the sea level was much lower than before.It is highly possible that the mountain may turn into a dryland or a hill soon!” Wang Fangping smiled and added,“No wonder the Saints say one can kick up the dust while walking in the sea.”
Thereafter,people use “the sea turned into a mulberry field” to show the great changes are seen in the course of time,or swift changes of the world.
