Here is the translation:
For want of a nail the shoe was lost;
For want of a shoe the horse was lost;
For want of a horse the rider was lost;
For want of a rider the battle was lost;
For want of a battle the kingdom was lost;
And all for want of a horseshoe nail.
(Note:want = lack; for want of = for the want of = due to the lack of)
This proverb can be found in Benjamin Franklin's Poor Richard's Almanac,a collection of maxims/proverbs on the value of work and savings.
