In recent years, the morphologically controllable syntheses
of ZnO have attracted a great deal of attentions in both
fundamental and application researches because of its unique
electrical, acoustic and optical properties [1–3]. Up to now,
various shapes of ZnO, such as plate, sphere, bi-pyramid,
ellipsoid, dumbbell, needle, prism, hexagon and comb-like have
been obtained [4–8]. There have been many existing strategies
and methods for synthesizing ZnO. Among them, the precursorinduced
method, vapor–liquid–solid process, surfactant-capping
method, template-assisted synthesis and hydrothermal
synthesis have been investigated [9–12]. Especially, hydrothermal
process, for its low cost, simple process and low
temperature synthesis, has been widely used for the synthesis
of ZnO crystal, which has a narrow distribution of particle size,
phase homogeneity and controllable morphology [13,14].
It is well known that most applications of crystallization
involved the process of crystallization from a solvent in
industrial process. However, there are few researches on
crystallization induced by various organic solvents in liquidmedium because it is difficult to control the morphology in
solution. Furthermore, due to the polar difference between
(0001)-Zn and (000-1)-O surface [15], the morphology of ZnO
is strongly affected by the external circumstance, which
increases the complexity of research.
