Xu,26,is like anyone else you know.He did not take part in a talent show or enjoy overnight fame.Six years ago,he was simply an ordinary college sophomore majoring in medical management at Anhui medical University.In his spare time,he played the piano and wrote songs,and then made some demos on his computer.
His story started after he uploaded those songs online.A growing number of people fell in love with his tender voice,catchy music and poetic lyrics .Record companies showed interest in signing him.But Xu turned them down.
“I wanted to finish my college studies first.Besides,those companies said they would write and choose songs for me.But I want to sing the songs that I want to sing,”he said.
After graduation,Xu released two albums.He did all of the work by himself,including composing,writing,recording,and even choosing paper used for the cover.
Last year,Xu signed with Ocean Butterflies Management,and the showbiz rules were changed for him:He could work on his CD however he wanted to.The company would only be in charge of promotion.
Xu has a concert in Beijing on Nov 25.As Xinhua News Agency noted,tickets reserved for students quickly sold out without any promotion.
Why is Xu so loved by the post-1990 generation?
