Industrial engineering began with motion and time study.Many other fields of activity have since been added as component parts of industrial engineering,including the field of operations research which looks for the optimum arrangement of all components of a company’s activities.Still motion and time study remain two of the most basic and necessary tools of investigation used by industrial engineers.We have come a long way since the day of the “efficiency expert”,but we are still vitally concerned with the method of accomplishing work and the time required for it.
