Instrument Validation
Content Validity
Content validity was applied to examine the correctness and appropriateness
of the teaching material (PPT file). Seven experts, including
three clinical nurses who held positions as head nurses, two
clinical senior pharmacists and two nursing faculty members specializing
in clinical teaching on medical–surgical wards, examined the
entire PPT file and offered their expert opinions about its content.
They all agreed that the questions, rationale, examples and photos
on the PPT were important concepts for nurses and that the whole
content was well organized, correct, precise and attractive. The content
validity index was 0.87.
Face Validity
Face validity was conducted by recruiting 30 nurses to test the effectiveness
of the intervention as well as to validate the teaching material
(PPT). The results showed that, pre-intervention, the correct
answer rate for the 20 questions was 69.8%, and that, postintervention
(6 weeks) it increased to 91.5% (t=5.10; pb.0001).
The nurses also gave feedback about the intervention, which reached
4.8 points (maximum 5).
Pilot Study
In order to ascertain and to understand whether intervention effects
would decay with the passage of certain periods of time, the
pilot study re-tested the same participants (n=30) at 6-, 8-, and
12-week intervals post-intervention. The correct answer rate was
接上:
69.8% on the pre-test, increasing to 91.5% (6 weeks), 91.9%
(8 weeks) and 90.2% (12 weeks) post-intervention, and all posttests
achieved statistically significant differences (pb0.0001) with
the pre-test but no significant differences between themselves at 6,
8 and 12 weeks. It was on this basis that we decided to implement
the post-test at a six-week interval and speculated that the effects
of intervention would not decay within 12 weeks.
