Eutrophication is a phenomenon induced by human activities and often happens at slow-moving water bodies such as lakes, river delta, and bays.Nitrogen, phosphorus and other nutrients generated by human activities get into the water system and lead to an algae bloom. The bloom leads to the accelerated growth of micro-organisms and planktons which feed on the algae and consume more oxygen in the water. The result of lowered oxygen content in water is the large-scale suffocation of fishes and other water creatures. When this happens in water or river,it is known as a bloom. In ocean,it is called a red tide.
