Four basic sections of the automobile in structure are engine, chassis, body and electrical system. The automotive basic mechanics is subdivided into several major categories: the body and frame, the engine or power source, the drive lines, running gear and the suspension system.

The engine acts as the power unit. The internal combustion engine is most common: this obtains it’s power by burning a liquid fuel inside the engine cylinder. There are two types of engine : gasoline(also called a spark-ignition engine) and diesel(also called a compression-ignition engine).

There are two types of body and frame configurations.
One type is the separate body and frame construction which has been used for a long time.
The second type is the unitized one with the body and frame in one unit which is used in most cars today.

A carburetor is a mechanical device that is neither totally accurate nor particularly fast in responding to changing engine requirements. Adding feedback controls and other emission-related devices in recent years has resulted in very complex carburetors. The solution to the problems posed by a carbureted fuel system is electronic fuel injection(EFI).

Conventional gasoline engines are designed to use an electronic fuel injection system, replacing the traditional mechanical carburetion system. Multi-point injection (MPI), where the fuel is injected through each intake port, is currently one of the most wider used systems. Although MPI provides a drastic improvement in response and combustion quality, it is still limited due to fuel and air mixing prior to entering cylinder.

Without the aid of friction , an automobile could not move itself. Excessive friction in the engine, however, would mean rapid destruction. We cannot eliminate internal frication, but we can reduce it to a controllable degree by the use of friction reducing lubricants.

The function is to store and supply fuel to the cylinder chamber where it can be mixed with air, vaporized, and burned to produce energy. The task of gasoline supply system is:
1) to supply combustible mixture according to operating conditions;
2) to provide adequate air to cylinder, and deliver exhaust to atmosphere

In the single-point fuel injection, it combines a single(or twin)fuel injection nozzle, fuel pressure regulator, throttle valve, throttle body unit. This unit is mounted directly on the intake manifold, in a similar manner to a conventional carburetor.

Electronic control system consists of various engine sensors, electronic control unit (ECU), fuel injector assemblies, and related wiring. The ECU determines precisely how much fuel needs to be delivered by the injector by monitoring the engine sensors.
