Over-the-shoulder shots are peculiar to theart of filmmaking and are much maligned by some filmmakers for beingtime-consuming to shoot correctly,but in my opinion every ambitious filmmakerwould be well advised to master not only the visual elements that go into apleasing over-that-shoulder shot,but also how to communicate with the cast andcrew to achieve the correct framing.Theillustration below shows my over-the-shoulder shot framing philosophy:
