I have been wrestling with the question of whether I go back to work or not.
这个whether 前面的of 能不能省略?whether引导的从句应该是修饰question,为什么前面又要加of呢?

可以去掉.加of是 the question of 的用法,...的问题,与后面形成介宾结构,whether引导的是宾语从句；
假如去掉of,那么更好就成了whether引导的同位语从句.
两种用法都对.
