But, not all pumping applications have a constant flow and the shape of the performance curve can often be as important as BEP itself. An example of this type of application is the constant speed booster pump. In these applications, a pressure reducing valve (PRV) throttles the pump when demand decreases in order to maintain some constant pressure. Pressure on the pump side of the valve follows the performance curve pressure while a preset, constant pressure is maintained on the discharge side of the valve.
