1.had intended to表示原打算干吗,却没干成,
而且这个动作发生在ended up,所以用过去完成时
but 只是连接两个并列的部分,不一定保持一致
2.end up with sth
3.end up( with) doing sth 这时有没有with 都行

had intended to表示过去本来打算、计划要做的事情，但实际上没有这么做。第二个空应该填with getting ，end up with表示以.....告终，结尾。所以你的答案有问题。他本要摆脱复杂的情况，却更深地被卷入其中。
