John woke up in the night and saw.(为省时间不写了）.The next morning he went out and saw one of his white shirts hanging on the clothesline.His wife （wash）it the day before and hung it out to dry.老师给的标准答案是had washed ,但问题是这样一来就变成了"His wife had washed it the day before",而过去完成时不是不能跟具体的时间状语的吗?我到底哪里搞错了?
