Without atmosphere _____ （protect）earth from the sun,earth would be too hot to live on.
老师说这道题应该填to protect,表将来.但是我觉得应添protecting.表主动,作后置定语.求解.

老师是正确的,这题是说的地球的未来,而不是现在（因为现在本来就有保护）,所以不定式to do放名词后面作定语表示将来.另外这是一个重点结构with/without+n.+doing/done/to do

那么那几个结构都怎么使用，什么意思？既然是假设，那么再假设的过程中事情就应在发生了。比如if 的条件状语从句，从句为一般现在时。

doing结构在with/without中，表示主动且表示和谓语动词同时发生。 With the wind blowing, he felt cold 风在吹，他感到冷。 the wind发出这个动作，是主动，且吹blowing这个动作和谓语几乎同时发生，所以用doing。前面讲的with/without+n+to do，是表示的是将来。
