He awoke in the middle of the night to see him softly go out of the room.
see him softly go.是不是在softly 前面漏了一个to ,应该是see him to softly go.

应该是:
He awoke in the middle of the night to see him softly （going） out of the room.
see sb doing sth 看到某人正在做某事
see sb do sth 看到某人经常做某事.
根据你的语境,应该是他醒来的时候看到他正在轻轻地走出房间.应该用see sb doing

see sb do sth 这里面的do是不带to的不定式，即省略to，你问的应该是改错吧，把do换成doing，see sb doing sth，表看见某人正做某事
