the是特指.
第一个空,the topic 是特指托尼文章的主题.不是其他人的,所以要特指.
第二个 the memory of human beings,人类的记忆力.这是特指人类的,不是其他动物的.

所以，第一空，特指你的文章的主题，用the，文章主题只能有特定的一个，不能用a
第二空，memory特别指定是人类的，所以也是the，而且在此处用a也不通，没法说是人类的一个记忆。
