The paper focuses on the vital influence of fashion on product design.Many classical products have more or less connection
with fashion.Although it may have had an active or positive effect on the products,fashion,during the development of
design,influenced the products design at least on the following sides:first,fashion urged the product designers to try to
create new products so as to gain more profits.For example,the commercial design in the 1950s in the United States ever
gave a great impetus to the development of the economy at that time.Secondly,fashion may cause a large amount of waste of
the labor and natural resources and it may lead the designers just to play type games with the consumers.So the consequence
appears that design seems to have gone to the opposite of its original aim.This article will review the effect of fashion on
product design in history,approach the active and the positive effects of the fashion on design and its vital role in modern
design.
