Not too long ago, Karen and I both happened to attend the same work-related meeting. As I was 36 the meeting with another colleague, she walked toward us. Our eyes met, I 37 I had to say something. “Hi, Karen” I said. I won’t lie. It was the 38 “hi” I’ve ever said in my life. But she one-upped (胜过)me with her 39 : she looked away and said nothing as she hurried by. “Wow,” my colleague,Scott, said as we walked out the door. “What was that about?” I walked a few steps 40 ,and then replied,“I honestly don’t know. ” It happens, I guess. With so many different people, we’re 41 to run into one sometimes with whom we don’t get along, but what are we 42 to do about it? I recently attended a training seminar, during which this very 43 came up. Different character types were identified, my type and Karen's included. Then the seminar expert talked about how 44 it is for our types to get along. “No wonder,” I thought to myself. “Our types are oil and vinegar. We just don’t 45 . ” That meant it wasn’t my 46 ,nor was it hers. It was a fact. So there was no point in worrying about it. The expert, 47 ,had other ideas. Actually,he 48 that often people from different types get along better because of their 49 . I immedtately thought of Bethany, also Karen’s type, with whom I get along 50 . “The reason why people can’t get along,” he continued,“is that somebody 51 to be a knucklehead (蠢人). ” Looking back on it,I can see knucklehead 52 on my part that probably 53 the ill will. Rather than try to fix it,weVe both allowed it to develop 54 weve reached the point of cold greetings. So I’m going to choose not to be a knucklehead. I’ll find ways to improve, adjust and do better. I won’t 55 “that’s just the way we are” because even oil and vinegar combine for a delicious salad dressing (调料). Even a knucklehead know that.
