According to the latest data from theMinistry of Water Resources of P.R China,there are more than 600 varioussized cities.More than 400 of them are lack of water,thereof 108 cities arewith serious situation of water shortage.Besides the cities,the watershortage have been starting occurrence in the broad rural area.
The river annual runoff amount in ourcountry is 2.7 trillion cubic meters,it is sixth in the world.It belongs to acountry which is rich in water resources in the world.But time distributionand spatial distribution of water resources are seriously uneven.From theregional distribution,the water of the Eastern is more than the westerns andthe Sothern’s is more than the northing’s.
In addition to specific geographicalconditions and weather conditions,water shortage is intensified as a result ofeconomic growth,population increase,and expansion of development andconstruction activities and ineffective protection of natural resourcesthroughout Chinese Mainland.
Development and utilization of rivers haveexceeded 30%-40% of International Ecological Warning Line and ecological wateris occupied in such a large amount that over-exploitation underground water andman-made sabotage of water resources take place in urban and rural areas.
