We heard the birds singing their sweet songs in the trees.
可以的,其实可以不用their,意思也很明确了.
on the trees似乎表示生长在树上的东西,比如苹果an apple on the tree；
on the tree在树上（原生物）.
in the tree在树上（外来物）.

语法应该是正确的 用了hear sb doing sth 听到某人在做某事 只不过这里的人是鸟
