I. Introduction

Body language is an important media through which people communicate with each other. It refers to the patterns of facial expressions and gestures that people use to express their feelings in communication. In school education, body language plays a positive role in cultivating students’ characters. For, teachers are usually respected, and factually, what or how the teachers say and do will be possibly imitated by the students. In a word, teachers’ graceful body language helps to improve students’ artistic-appreciation and moral characters. If students develop a wonderful body language, which will possibly leads them to form an optimistic and active feeling. They will surely have a more smooth interpersonal relation.
The affection of teachers' body language on the students is reflected not only by establishing a good example, but also shortening the teacher-student estrangement by which a more harmonious studying atmosphere is created. As a matter of fact, teachers’ friendly appearance can greatly encourage students’ studying enthusiasm. Furthermore, the characteristics of theoretic and abstraction of knowledge also require the vivid, dramatic and an accessible gestures to make it specific and figurative. As a result, students’ interest is motivated and the effect of teaching is greatly improved.

Body language is used by people for sending messages to one another. It is very useful because it can help you make yourself easily understood. When you are talking with others, you are not just using words, but also using expressions and gestures. For example, waving one’s hand is to say “Good Bye”. Nodding the head means agreement, and shaking the head means disagreement.

　English teaching is a key part in school education. With the reform of English teaching methods, more and more English teachers organize the teaching process so that they may realize the communicated English. The communicated English means that teachers instruct the students and explain questions basically in English, and the students are also required to use English in class. Contemporarily, however, the students in the middle school can't speak very well; they can’t understand why they should use different tones in different time or situation; their vocabulary and expressive ability are limited too. These limitations made it difficult to realize the communicated English in the class. According to the students’ present level and practical situation, body language is required. For example, when a teacher gives an instruction, say: “You two, please come to the blackboard.” The students can easily understand it if the teacher looks at (or points to) some two students. Then, the teacher points to the blackboard. The students will carry out the order without obstacle even if they don't hear the key words “blackboard” clearly.

　　As we know, body language is very important, how can we use the body language? A teacher can combine spoken English with body language together when he teaches English. Frankly speaking, teacher can use body language as possible as he can.
　　Teachers can use their facial expression reasonably in class. Smiling shows teacher’s friendly attitude to their students. How can teachers bring their smiling to the students? A teacher should tell his students some humorous stories which he has read. What is more, a teacher can encourage his/her students to act out some funny, lovely and interesting short plays or to tell others some interesting tales and so on. Being a teacher, he should get into the habit of humorous and optimistic life view.?
　　Sometimes, students’ behaviors are not so good as the teachers have expected in their class. They can keep still and stare at him or her, which shows their anger or attention to him or her. Then his students must realize what he cares about. As a result, teacher can go on with his lesson without stopping class for a long time. Sometimes, the students who are shy dare not answer the teachers’ questions loudly. At that time, a teacher can show his smiling to encourage students efficiently. In the end, he will finish the class smoothly.
In some classes, a teacher can inspire his students to do some interesting tries. For example, when studying something about water, teachers can make students do some tries like this: first, fill in a glass with some water; second, cover the glass with a piece of thick paper, and put one of his hands on the piece of paper; third, put the upside down. At last, move his hand away slowly. Now the teacher can ask students some questions about water in time, because all of them may pay all of their attention to the try. At that time, all students may be very interested in the try and they are very excited about it. They will try their best to finish their tasks to answer the questions, listen to their teacher carefully and think about it attentively.

? To understand others is a basic purpose in English teaching, and teachers often train students’ listening accordingly. In this process, if body language is used, the effect will be better. When beginning a new lesson, the teacher narrates the story outline in English. The body language may help. For example, a teacher can stretch his arms slowly when he says “She is in a very big room”; he can open his eyes widely with mouth opened when he says “She is so beautiful a lady”. As a result, students will have such an impression: she is very beautiful indeed; a teacher who imitates the crying or the movement of the animals under the premise of teaching order will surely achieve a better effect.

Students in middle school are not often accustomed to and always confuse them. However, with the help of body language, they can solve the problem much more easily.
　　In a word, the vivid gesture together with the fluent English can create a good circumstance of learning, which will surely play an active part in improving the students' reading ability.

　　To get rid of students’ feelings of being dull and tiring, an English teacher has to use every possible method. This is the same to the writing. Teachers use different method in order to improve the students' ability of writing, among which, the application of body language can deepen the object impression, such is magnificent in developing the students' writing ability.
　　The linguist Franklin ever said, “Tell me, I'll forget; teach me, I'll remember; involve me and I'll learn.” If students are asked to write an unfamiliar composition, they would probably be unable to and feel discouraged. However, students can write excellent articles if they have the experience. The use of body language is completely up to the standard of audiovisual teaching principle, so teachers should try to teach in English from the beginning to the end, together with the corresponding body language. In the end, the students’ ability of English will be certainly and greatly improved.
