may 的过去式 might . 为什么有时候现在时态也用might? 除了虚拟语气还有其他么?

英语中本来就存might在这个更单词,它不仅仅是may的过去式.
它有以下几个义项：
1、表示推测,就是一件事发生的可能性,但是这种可能性很小,证据极其缺乏,不确定性很大,翻译为“可能”
There might be but one answer.
现在就只能有一种答案.
You might ask why I would do that.
你可能会问我为什么我要那样做.
And the answer might surprise you.
而答案可能会令你吃惊.
I am thinking what might happen.
我在想可能会发生什么事.
It might rain tomorrow.
明天可能要下雨.
Cars might go too fast and hurt people.

2、表示建议,可翻译为“可以”
We might stay where we are.
我们可以留在原地不动.
You might bunk down in that hotel.
