The number of the books in the library （a.is increasing）.
图书馆里书本的数目正在增长.
这句话的主语是number,而不是books,形式上是第三人称单数.B的are和D的have都是复数形式,不合适.C项的being是不能单独当谓语动词的.

选A the number of是“……的数量”的意思，谓语要用单数（a number of为“大量”的意思，谓语动词用复数形式，本题考点是这两个词的差别。）

选择A 呢 楼主，首先判断主语 主语是the number表明是一个单纯的数字，所以是单数，这样就排除了B 和D
然后 increase是主动动词的用法 可以直接说 the number is increasing ,不用被动形式，所以C 也排除，而且选择C 的话 句子就缺少了谓语动词了
