那么句子应是现在时it is years 或 it has been years since he enjoyed himself so much.这里since表示从过去某个时间点到现在这段时间里发生的事
加上了主句he told me that后面从句都变为过去时,所以是He told me that it was years since he had enjoyed himself so much

选before。he had enjoyed himself 发生在years之前。
他告诉我那是几年前他很享受自己（有这么快乐的日子）这么多。或者翻译成，他有好些年没有过过这么快乐的日子了。
就是说“这么享受自己的日子”在几年以前有发生过，过了几年到现在的holiday有发生了。如图：

D 之所以选择它 是因为后面是过去完成时态 表示过去的过去 选项里面只有since 能表示过去的过去
