这一空应该在than 之后：
Cars do cause us some health problems--in fact far more serious than【those】 mobile phones do.
those 代替the problems,同名异物,即和前文一样,也是个问题,但却是不同的问题.估计你是觉得ones 也行,注意：ones 没有【同名异物】的用法.

它是代替前文的problems 的， 不属于“同名异物” than 之后才属于另一个问题

不是， 这个是指代“汽车所导致的健康问题”， 后面被比的是“用手机所导致的健康问题”， 所以说要用those, 应该是后面， 但此句省略了。看下句：（完整的是这样的） Cars do cause us some health problems--in fact far more serious 【ones】than 【those】mobile phones do.

还告诉你一招， those 不能有“前置定语”， 只能有“后置定语” far more serious 是前置定语，而those 之前是不能有修饰语的。 如果你还不懂。。。。呵呵。。。
