To begin with,some theoretical analyses will be presented.Two
main methods were followed which,both,provided some interesting
results.The first involved classical linear mechanics and allowed
us to investigate the stress fields within the bonded joint.
Two stress fields were of particular interest; the out-of-plane shear
stress field,and the peeling stress in the adhesive joint.The second
involves the linear fracture mechanics and is based on energy equilibrium.
This allows to study the behaviour of cracks inside the
structures and their ability to propagate.The two approaches are
complementary,the first allowing to study the influence of geometry
on stress fields,and hence on the capacity of the bonded joint
based on the observations stated in the previous section,and the
second allowing to examine the fatigue behaviour of the joint.
