Mr and Mrs Everson, their sons Ethan and Jason, and daughters Hannah and Emily are around the table, having Sunday dinner in their dining room.
“What’s for dessert, Mom?” Ethan asks when he helps his mother take away the last of the plates.
“Your dad baked (烤) an apple pie,” Mrs Everson answers.
“Yummy!” says Ethan’s sister Emily from her high chair at the end of the table.
“Well, I would like fifteen minutes of pie, please,” Ethan says with a big smile when he sits back down at the table.
“Fifteen minutes of pie, what does that mean?”ask little Jason. He is very confused (困惑的) .
“Mr Lavel is teaching us about time in school,” Ethan answers. He is in second grade and they are just to learn how to tell the time on a clock. “He tells us that the clock can be divided (划分) into four fifteen minute sections (部分) , like the pieces of a pie. Fifteen times four is sixty and there are sixty minutes in an hour.”
“Very good, son!” Mr Everson says smiling.
“So then may I have fifteen minutes of pie, please?” Ethan asks again when his mother puts the dessert on the table.
Mrs Everson looks at her son. “How about you have ten minutes of pei and leave some for us?” she answers.
