【方式状语】
到了分析成分的份上,句子含义应该不用解释了.
就是说水果被摘下来以后仍然可以类似于人呼吸方式一样,吸入二氧化碳呼出氧气.（注：着重强调方式,人和植物的呼吸方式是一样的,但是吸入和呼出的气体刚好是相反的）
这个句子在整个句子中不影响整体大意的表述,从而可以判断是状语从句,然后根据意思上的分析【just as 就像……一样】判断其为方式状语.

其实这是一道GMAT题，请问一下你知道为什么后面"just as"那部分不能是"similar to the way human beings breathe."么？

similar to the way human beings breathe.在此处不能做方式状语。
原句句意完整，不缺少任何成分，所以来说taking in oxygen and giving off carbon dioxide, 后面的句子成分应该是一个状语。
similar to the way human beings breathe.不符合状语从句的形式，其本身句子成分残缺了。
