The double life of Alfred Bloggs


Why didi Alf want a white-collar job?These days, people who do mannual work often aeceive far more money than people who work in offices. People who work in offices are frequently referred to as "white-collar workers" for the simple reason that they uauslly wear a collar and tie to go to work. Such is human nature , that a great many people ar eoften willing to sacrifice higher pay for the privilege of becoming situations, as it did in the case of Alfred
Bloggs who worked as a dustman for the Ellesmere Corporation.
When he got married. Alf was too embarrassed to say anything to his wife zbout his job.He simply told her that he worked for the Corporation. Every morning, he left home dressed in a smart black suit. He then changed into overalls and spend the next eight hours as a dustman. Before returning home at night, he took a shower and changed back into his suit. Alf didi this for over two years and his fellow dustmen kept his secret. Alf's wife has never discovered that she married a dustman and she never will, for Alf has just found another job. He will soon be working in an office. He will be earning half as much as he used to, but he feels that his rise in status is well worth the loss of moeny. From now on , he will wear a suit all day and others will call him"Mr. Bloggs' .not 'Alf ' .

A French Traveler
A Frenchman was once traveling in England. He could speak English quite well but not perfectly. For one thing, his vocabulary was not large. One day, he was having a meal in a small country hotel and wanted to order some eggs. But he couldn't remember the word for eggs. Suddenly, through the window, he saw a rooster walking in the yard. He immediately asked the waiter what the bird was called in English. The waiter told him that it was called a rooster. The Frenchman then asked what the rooster's wife was called. The waiter told him that she was called a hen. The Frenchman then asked what the hen's children were called. The waiter told him that they were chickens. The Frenchman then asked what the chickens were called before they were born. The waiter told him they were called eggs. "Fine!" said the Frenchman. "Please bring me two eggs and a cup of coffee."

Scared the Thief Away
　　One day, mamma and dad went out, leaving me alone at home. I was doing my homework suddenly I heard some sound of "Dong! Dong! Dong!"At first I thought, "Who is knocking at the door with so loud a sound?" I looked out from the door slit and saw a man with stealthy behavior picking the lock of the door. It was a thiefl I was so frightened that I didn't know what to do for a short time. I was just a kid, and if he broke in, I was certainly no match for him. Just at that moment a good idea occurred to me. I shouted loudly, "Mom, dad is calling you! "Fortunately it worked. The thief was scared away. A bad man can never be wiser than a good one.
