大意是
我到Reed College过完前6个月后就放弃了,但是由于踌躇,在我真正退出之前仍然徘徊了大约18个月.

这里的AS是 作为 的意思，作为一个休学生

其实本句的大概意思就是说。我本来想辍学的，但是后来没有辍学，是休学了。
