①“flow 是不及物动词来的,所以不会是过去分词做状语”,谁说过去分词做状语必须是及物动词?

应该可以，意思也大致一样，不过着重点不同
原文着重RIVER，修改后着重FLOW这个动作

是不可以的，
因为in the midst of which是主语
flowed 是谓语
谓语一定是要动词的！!!
