Bi Li and Xian Nü are a pair of giant pandas from Sichuan Province.They are very excited these days because they have moved to a new home,Ueno Zoo (上野动物园) in Tokyo,Japan.
Xian Nü and Bi Li are both 5 years old.They will stay in Japan for 10 years under a new research of giant pandas.To make them feel at home,Ueno Zoo has spent about 1 million U.S.dollars decorating its panda house.Panda keepers have prepared much fresh bamboo and snacks for the animals to eat.
Tokyo is rolling out the red carpet for the arrival of Bi Li and Xian Nü.Streets are decorated with panda posters,and cafes are selling panda-shaped (熊猫形状的) cakes.Tokyo has yet to choose Japanese names for the two pandas.More than 40,000 names have come from the public.
Kanami Matsumoto,a student from
Tokyo’s Nihon University (日本大学),said she was looking forward to the arrival of the giant pandas.“I have seen pandas only on TV in the past.I’ll certainly visit Bi Li and Xian Nü when they’re ready to meet the public.”
