In the discussion of practical mechanics the principles are outlined whereby the designer may tkae a structure or mechanical component with know forces acting on it and proceed to find out the various effects those forces will have on the system.
In other words,the study of mechanics might start with a beam acted upon by given forces and use established methods to predict the deflection of the beam and the force distribution within the beam due to those applied forces.
