这里的 that 换成 when 好点吧 但是书上用的是 that 为什么呢?

可以用when.
时间可以看作定语从句特殊的先行词.先行词是时间的时候,有时可用that来充当关系副词,甚至有时that还可以省略.
eg:This is the first time (that) I have been there.这是我第一次来这儿.(这是我来这儿的第一次.)
It is time (that) we went home.该回家了.（是回家的时间了.）

另外。。这句话也不是that引导的定语从句嘛。。是宾语从句啦，倒装句，the day作full of 的介词宾语
