Types of Commodities Contracts
The commodity contract lists the type of commodity and the denomination in which it is traded (bushels,pounds,troy ounces,metric tons,percentage points,etc.).The contract will also specify the standardized unit for trade (5,000 bushels,30,000 pounds,etc.).A further designation will indicate the month in hitch the contract ends,with most commodities having a whole range of months from which to choose.Typically,contracts run as far as a year into the future,but some interest rate futures contracts extend as far as three years.
Examples of the sizes of futures contracts are presented in Table 16-3 on page 462.be Aware that there may be many different forms of the same commodity (such as spring wheat or amber/durum wheat).
