The third problem is that most of the maintenance approaches are established based on a stable environment where machines are installed and operated for a long period of time.In today’s high-tech industries the environment is dynamic and equipment upgrades and new installations become almost a routine function.In many cases,reliability theory and maintainability analysis cannot be applied because the equipment changes so fast that there is not enough data to come up with a meaningful statistical analysis.In other words,MTBF and MTTR are not meaningful when data sample size is not big enough.
