The gragh illustrates global water use by sectors:agriculture,industrial use and domestic use in the last decade of 20th century.Water consumption in agriculture increases fastest from 500 km3 at the beginning year of 1900 up to 3000 km3 in 2000 with a sharp trend since 1950.However,in both industrial and domestic fields water use didn’t see a dramatic rise in the past years,especially in the first half of 20th century.In compare,industrial use is four times higher than domestic use( the later one is 300km3 in 2000).
As to the table below that shows water consumption in Brazil and Congo in 2000,we can conclude obviously from it,that available water is not in balance around the world and somewhere in the world is in extreme water short.Take these two countries as examples:In Brazil,a nation of 176 million population within 26500 km2 irrigated land,359 m3 water is on supply for each person.While for 5.2 million people living in Democratic Republic of Congo with 100km2 irrigated land only 8 m3 water per person is available.
