... was the ship's log book, parts of which it was still possible to read.
这句话里面which不是直接可以作为定语从句的主语吗?为什么还需要用it?谢谢.

这里的which做的是read的宾语,可以还原为 it was still possible to read parts of the log book.it 是形式主语,真正主语是to read parts of the log book.which 指代log book.
