7．A youthful president 温文尔雅的俄罗斯新总统梅德韦杰夫.HE has been a fan of British hard rock since childhood.But his parents didn’t have the money to buy him his favorite band’s albums.However,30 years later,he was able to invite the band to play at Kremlin (克里姆林宫).The boy was Dmitry Medvedev (梅德韦杰夫).Last Wednesday he took over from Vladimir Putin (普京).At the age of 42,he becomes the youngest president of modern Russia.Medvedev was born to a family of teachers.He read a lot from a young age.His favorites were the science-fiction book Children of Captain Grant (格兰特船长的儿女) and the encyclopedia (百科全书).But from the beginning he wanted more than books.When he was 13 he got his first wage — 30 roubles (卢布) for fixing cars.He blew the money on ice creams,cinema tickets and taxis with his best friend.After university,the soft-spoken young man went on to teach law at university and became very popular with his students.In 1999,Medvedev,after an invitation from Putin,left the school to become an official (官员) in Moscow.His students were sad and wrote him a note:“We have lost a handsome and smart teacher and will miss him very much.Please come back soon.”In 2005,Medvedev became the first deputy prime minister (第一副总理).But he kept a low profile and was as friendly as before.“He has not changed.He invited me to his home so he is not high and mighty,” said Vera Smirnova,Medvedev’s first teacher.“In Russia,only two politicians have invited their first teachers to their homes,Medvedev and Putin.”
