the media 作主语谓语用单数（is)还是（are)?

media是名词medium的复数形式,所以本身表示复数概念,当它做主语时,谓语动词用复数形式.
Eg：Some media have sent reporters to cover the story.
The media have played an important part in helping people understand each other and the world better.
也有人说它的谓语是单数的.
Online media is replacing newspapers and TV.Is that a bad thing?
