这是虚拟语气的用法,他就是if引导的虚拟语气
1.从后面主句可以看出是对过去的虚拟（对过去的虚拟,主句用should/would/could have done,从句用过去完成时）.单这一点就可以排除ABC
2.但这类虚拟还要注意要是if引导的从句中出现should,had,were 就要省略if,并将这些词提前.这个句子的原型就是：If he had been sent to the hospital in time,he would have been saved.
