Once upon a time there was a strange king with a very strange sense of humour.
When he caught a big criminal (罪犯) or an enemy he would use their punishment as a kind of entertainment.Instead of killing the man he would put him in an arena (角斗场) in which there were two doors.Behind one door was a very beautiful woman； if the prisoner chose that door,he would marry the woman and get his freedom.But,behind the second door was a hungry and ferocious (凶猛的) tiger； if he chose that door,it would be great fun for the king,and perhaps the tiger.
As it happens,the king’s daughter had fallen in love with a handsome young man and the man was also one of the king’s enemies.When the king found out,he caught his daughter’s boyfriend and decided to punish him the same way.
The king’s daughter was very upset,but she knew which door the lady was behind and which door the tiger was behind,so she told her boyfriend she would give him a sign.
