Future Research
As indicated by the results,this study has several imitations.First,time constraints may have reduced the effectiveness of rehearsal-plus; three days may not have been long enough for children to learn this strategy.Second,moderately fearful children were included in the study.Finally,the sample size was small.
Future research is needed to examine the relationship between children' s fear of fire and their performance during a fire.To achieve this objective,our lab is currently examining the way children cope in simulated fires before training.Another possible way to achieve this objective is to examine children's retrospective accounts of their functioning and fear levels during real fires.Finally,continued work is needed to develop strategies that will enhance maintenance.
