It was not dark ____ (when/that)until he found ______ (what/that) was the best way to solve the problem.
不能这样理解么——he found (that was the best way to solve the problem.)他found的是一个句子啊~或者——that 强调而 what不强调~

直到天黑了他才找着最好的解决问题的办法.
第一个空不用填,第二个填what,因为原句里强调的并不是哪一个才是最佳解题方法,而是强调他花了多长时间才找着了最佳解题方法.

填that , what. It is ...that...是强调句.后一空what引导宾语从句,在从句中充当主语.

第一空可以空着 选that也可以 用法是it is 。。。that 和it is not。。。until 第二个空选what 选that的话应该再有个it 是that it was

答案大家都对,至于你补充的,是主语从句的用法,that和what都可引导主语从句。what除起连接作用外，还在名词性从句中充当某些成分，可作从句的主语、宾语或表语。而that在名词性从句中不充当任何成分，无词义，只起连接词作用.而在后面句子中,空格要填上的是个形式主语,所以应该选what....
