The Four Ps of Marketing
The list of activities that can be included in the efforts to get and keep customers is quit extensive.For a restaurant,the things that influence whether customers eat there include the location,décor,menu,quality and presentation of food,type of service,and prices.All of these are marketing decisions first and foremost.To make these decisions,a restaurant’s managers must determine (1) what their current and potential customers need or want,(2) how to pro vide it,and (3)how to persuade current and potential customers to patronize the restaurant.These activities break down into four basic responsibilities that are popularly called the “Four Ps of Marketing”:product,place,price,and promotion.
How businesses allocate their resources among product,place,price,and promotional efforts varies widely,depending on the objectives of each business.In a sense,the Four Ps are like the ingredients in a recipe for success,and the relative proportion of resources allocated to each effort and the way thes four marketing efforts are combined is often referred to as the marketing mix.
