An universities and colleges,sports and social activities are just as important as classes and libraries and should receive equal financial support.
There is no doubt that the main responsibility of a university or college is to improve the stduents' academic ability.However,increasing number of people think the universities and colleges should concentrate on sports and social activities.Some even hold the opinion that those activities are just as important as classes and libraries and should be receive equal financial support.But is it?Close examination doesn't bear out the claim.
To begin with,the primary reason why I disagree with the proposition is that studens' main activity is studying,which occupies most of their time,so a peaceful studying environment plays an important role in a student's academic development.To provide their students excellent studying environment,universities should build large libraries designed to accommodate the students as well as the books.Therefore,sports and social activities,which occupy a much smaller part of the student's time,do not need receive as many financial support as class and libraries.
Another obvious reason I want to emphasize is that a university must pay every year to keep its collection up-to date and to improve its education quality.The goal of every university should be to have the most current books and materials its students need in order to study.Continuing costs for sports,on the other hand,are relatively low,requiring only a few part-time staff and maintenance routines.
Admittedly,sports and social activities play an crucial role in students' college life.Sports contribute greatly to student's physical and mental health.Student can strengthen their bodies and relax themselves.Moreover,sports and social activities can improve the relationship among students.They can make friends through these colourful activities.However,the investment that a school needs to make to ensure a physical fitness is relatively small.Considering the main mission of the school is to develop students' mind rather than their body,the school should put more of its resource into its classes and libraries.
To sum up,with every aspect taken into consideration,we can safely draw a firm conclusion that sports and social activities are not as important as classes and libraries and should not receive equal financial support.It is true that sports and social activities has such advantages,nevertheless,the significance of classes and libraries is more essential for students.
