不可数名词的谓语动词可以是复数吗
举两个例子：1、Various clothing are on display.
2、There are a lot of news in the newspaper today.
虽然我知道clothing和news都是不可数名词,谓语动词必须用单数形式.
但主谓一致中也有一个原则——语义一致,可否将 various clothing理解为很多件衣服,a lot of news理解为很多条新闻,这样不即可数了么?

clothing和news都是不可数名词,谓语动词必须用单数形式
Various clothing is on display
There is a lot of news in the newspaper today.
语义一致原则是针对以下例子提出的
50 miles is not easy for us to finish in such short time对我们来说50英里不简单
30 minutes is enough三十分钟就够了

various clothing的意思就是“很多件衣服”，a lot of news就是“很多条新闻”（只是我们不熟悉英文的这些习惯表达而已）。既然如此，根据“语义一致”原则，这些词组做句子主语时，其谓语动词要用复数形式。
